India is planning to launch “e-passport scheme”. The external affair minister of India Mr.Pranab Mukarjee recently presented one to the president of India Ms.Patil.
The E-Passport consists of an electronic chip which consists of the personal details of the holder. This will be of great help to reduce the procedures at immigration. The government is planning to launch it in a phased manner. All the government employees will be provided with one sooner. E-Passport will be available for the public around September 2009 by the latest.
